This may not be my most politically correct blog, but someone has to say it. Most of you know I usually play fair, and will never badmouth Muslims in general. I do reserve the right to mock hypocritical Muslims, as much as Christians, Jews, or any others. And I must say one thing, if someone sterotypes you, it's better to prove them wrong than to perpetuate it.

Just seems like a pretty dumbass response. A few bad apples...

Completely agree. What better way to get people to stop drawing cartoons about you than by reacting in a completely disproportional way that reinforces everything the original cartoon said about you?

I'm also in complete agreement. And that's a great cartoon!

I'm not. If you are aware that certain religions find it insulting and blasphemic to show pictures of their God, then you should try to find another way to depict voilence in the Middle East. I mean, that cartoonist could have gotten the exact same point across without drawing a picure of Muhammed with a bomb hat on. I think it was a shameless and opportunistic thing to do, and a really shitty thing to do. If you dislike terrorists, then lampoon them, and do it without insulting all those Muslims who don't go around bombing embassies.
Plus, I read that just weeks before, the same Denmark newspaper refused to run cartoons of Jesus, for fear of offending Christians. What a bunch of hypocrites. I abhor the violence, but those newspaper assholes had to see this coming, and did it anyway.

Great drawing, though! Where can I get one of those shirts?

Really though, Tom, regardless of the newspaper's M.O., don't you think that this is just a bit of an overreaction? And it certainly fuels the fire of right-wing opinion that "all Muslims are an eyelash away from being terrorists". Is it impossible for the leaders of the muslim community to step up and say something to the effect of "this is incredibly offensive and here's the reason why, but (to quote Connor Oberst) 'Let's Not Shit Ourselves'"? And then find a positive way to address it as a community, to raise awareness about Islam in a productive, meaningful way that's educational to non-Muslims, most of whom don't know Jack-shit about Mohammed or what is and isn't important to Muslims.

Nice! I was thinking that that would make a fine T-shirt!

First off, it is not all Muslims who reacted this way. Second, the leaders of the Muslim community (including the terrorist Hamas) has come out against the violence. And third, I'd be shocked to find out that the Danish Newspaper didn't know "jack-shit" about Mohammed or what is important to Muslims. I don't agree with the reaction, but it is certainly expected. I think it was irresponsible and tasteless, and deserves some reaction.

do we actually agree about something for once?

"...the church has marched hand in hand with the military.
Casting its blessings upon the writhing bodies of the battlefield.
Each stab of the bayonet is god's word.
Each crash of steel is god's word.
Each torn limb is god's word.
For he so loved the world he gave our only begotten sons."
