A lot of people are really into Ron Paul these days. In general, I think they have no idea what they are talking about, or who he really is.
I, for one, do not trust Libertarians. They are for freedom, AKA Liberty, hence their name. Well, that seems cool. They are against corruption. Wow, me too! And lower taxes. Yeah, I guess that would be nice, but don't we need to spend less? Of course! Get out of Iraq? Sounds good. It's just for those corporate mofos' profits anyways. Yeah! So what's your problem, Bill? Why so negative, Nelly?
OK. What are Ron Paul's specific positions? We all know what's wrong with the country. What are his solutions? Abolish the IRS? Dismantle the banking system?
Name any fundamental publicly-owned institution. How about roads and bridges, public education, or fire trucks. They'll have no more of that! What would Ron Paul do to prepare for Katrina? Everyone for himself, right? Sick? I hope you saved up a lot of money! And if you don't have that evil paper currency on hand -- yet another conspiracy/scam -- you can't go to the ATM. No more evil bankers, remember? You're saving for retirement, right? Don't count on Social Security -- clearly that's just another bogus theft by Big Government sure to be abolished in the name of Liberty. Perhaps you'll die before you get old, like those baby boomers said. Just kidding, ha ha.
Libertarians are extreme Republicans, without the pragmatic common sense.
Would it come as a surprise to you that a straight-talkin' man, who wants you off his property or else, might have positive words to say about the Grand Wizard of the KKK? And, likewise, disparaging words for MLK? Thinks AIDS victims "enjoy the attention and pity that comes with being sick"?
It would seem that some of
Ron Paul's newsletters from the 1980s and '90s are quite... racy. This was called to my attention by
an article in The New Republic. Ron Paul's newsletters state that Lincoln was wrong to superimpose Federal antislavery laws on those poor Southern States, who just wanted autonomy. Sound familiar? Speaking of autonomy, what is Ron Paul's stance on abortion? Is it consistent with his other policies? Check out his pro-militia stance in support of avenging the Waco victims, published a few months before the Oklahoma City bombing. How's that for healthy rhetoric?
Paul claims that the most controversial quotes were not penned by his hand. However, they were all done under his banner, and there seems to be a trend that spans many years.
While I encourage people to applaud people who speak truth to power, I discourage hate speech and loony ideas that make it harder for other truth speakers to be taken seriously.
